The Sounding Joy FM #22

Just a short post,  I made this card using the Sounding Joy set out of the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini, and I love it.  I am working on a card for an upcoming event.  I thought I would try the Gate-Fold for the event, but after making the card, I probably will stick to something a little simpler.   I am keeping the card closed with the corner bow but I am not sure everyone would be able to replicate that feature, and the card flapping up is driving me crazy.  I do like the color scheme Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, and Gold.  I tried using the silver and thought I would emboss with the new pewter embossing powder, but I really like gold and red together.  I am going to use the pewter with a different color scheme.  Let me know what you think of the card, since I am still tweaking it.  I am entering it in the Friday Mashup Challenge which is to make a card with a Gate-fold,    http://www.fridaymashup.com/2011/09/fm22-behind-door.html.  I wasn’t able to Mash it Up and put numbers in the card unless you count the song “Joy to the World”  musical notes and numbers are similar.  Thanks for making me think outside my box.

  1. Make a card using the Gate-fold
    technique
(Actually, there are several varieties of gate
    folds…show us what you got!)
  2. Or Make a card using Numbers…any numbers, stamped (if you have them!), chipboard,
    die cut, stickers…
  3. Or Mash it Up!  and make a card with
    a gate fold AND numbers
    !

D is for Dog-Friday Mashup Challenge #15

Today I am participating in the Friday Challenge, and I made a card using both the colors and the sketch.  The card is using Stampin’ Up! “D is for Dog” set.  My friend recently lost her dog named Princess and I wanted to do a card that would capture her spirit.  I typically do not do such a vintage card but I wanted to use the new Beau Chateau DSP.  Yes, I used my first piece of the DSP which I received in a paper share.  The new DSP is fabulous, and so much better when you see it.  For this card I used a new technique although you cannot see it in the photograph.  I sprayed the card with alcohol mixed with a few drops of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  It gives the card a very subtle sparkle.  Oops!  I just realized I did not use Whisper White for the card but rather I used Very Vanilla.  I went back and forth between Whisper White and Very Vanilla but ultimately felt Very Vanilla worked better with the dog.  So for my colors I used: Pink Pirouette, Early Espresso, Real Red (I do not have any Riding Hood Red Ink), Old Olive, and Very Vanilla.  I was inspired to do the grass for the dog, after I saw the card shown in the challenge by Holly.  I thought it was the perfect backdrop for the dog.  The grass is a stamp in “Inspired by Nature”, and the bird is from the hostess set, Silhouette Sentiments (retired).  The ribbon is Pink Pirouette (also retired) with finished with an Antique Brad.  Thanks for a great challenge.

I also stamped the inside of the card, and placed the outline from the Top Note Die.  The frame from the Top Note Die is perfect for photographs, and I hope my friend will keep the card and put a picture of Princess in it.

Land of the Free

Land of the Free

I made this card as a thank you card for my friend that hosts a party at her beach front condo on the Fourth of July.  My family went to the party last year and we were invited back this year- woo hoo.  I am also entering it in 2 challenges.

The first Challenge is the Saturday Sketch Challenge #210 at Stamping 411,  http://www.stamping411.blogspot.com.    I always like to participate in the Saturday Sketch challenges at Stamping 411, and the Operators are such an inspiration.

The second challenge is The Friday Mashup #13.  I participated in their challenge several weeks ago, and have enjoyed following the blog, http://www.fridaymashup.com/.

The Mashup #13 challenges is as follows:

This week for the Mashup Challenge #13, you are welcome to:
1. Create a project featuring the colors Red, White & Blue.
2. Create a Patriotic themed Project for (any Country).
3.Or “Mash it Up!” and create a Red, White & Blue, Patriotic
Project
.

So on to my card- I used SU cardstock-Real Red, Whisper White, and Night of Navy.  I used SU Land of Free for the stamp, and inked it with Night of Navy and Real Red.  I used the Night of Navy ink pad (I do not have this color marker) and the Real Red SU marker.  I used the now retired Star punch and retired Real Red striped grosgrain ribbon.  My demonstrator, Lee Conrey was cleaning out her stash, and I was a happy beneficiary of her kindness.  I love the striped grosgrain ribbon, and I am happy to use all the colors even retired.  In the center of the stars I put a silver brad after punching a hole with the SU paper piercing tool.

The dimensions are as follows:

First layer- 5 1/2 X 4

Second layer- 5 1/8 X 3 7/8

Image

First layer-2 1/8 X 3 1/8

Second layer 2 X 3

So now on to some big news- I think I am going to join SU as a hobby demonstrator with their new promotion it is just too good to pass up.  I have been stamping for over 12 years, and I been stamping with my demonstrator Lee Conrey since at least 2006.  Over the years I have been hot and cold, although over the last year I have tried to stamp at least once a week to reduce stress and have some ” me” time.  I mentioned it to my husband last night and since his head did not spin around, I guess that was an OK.  I would love to have any comments or tips about this endeavor.  I also have been using WordPress since I started my blog in October 2010, if anyone that uses WordPress can recommend another design that is stamping friendly I would appreciate it.  Unfortunately I have to wait until July 15th to sign up since I have a big trial week coming up, and new stamping stuff would only become a distraction.

Thanks for letting me share.  I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend.  I will be waiting on the Casey Anthony verdict from Orlando, FL , innocent until proven guilty.  I am so proud to live in the Land of the Free, the United States of America.

Friday Mashup #9 Colorful Kids

Sunny Fun Friday Mashup #9

I made another version of the card I made on Sunday for the Friday Mashup #9 Colorful Kids Challenge, http://www.fridaymashup.com/, I have not entered this challenge before but I love the colors- Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise,  and Pacific Point.  I think this would be a perfect card for either a girl or boy.  I used the colors listed and Sunny Fun from the Stampin’Up Summer Mini, along with the postage stamp punch.  Thanks for letting me play along.  It has been a long week and it is only Wednesday.  Only 2 more days of school and then I get an extra hour of sleep on week days. 🙂
