Inspired by Nature

Inspired by Nature

It was so exciting to be in the Stamping 411 Showcase last week.  I had a really hard work week since I was on call and had calls in the middle of the night three nights in a row, so it was such a pleasant surprise.   I had hoped to get some time to stamp this weekend, but time flew by with little time indoors.  It has been not only hot in Florida, but also smoky in North Florida and South Georgia from forest fires.    Today was a beautiful day with little smoke so I had to take the time to work in the yard.  I have had a knee problem since the end of May, and had a cortisone shot last week that seems to be working (boy do they hurt).  I am taking some much-needed time off later in the week, so I know I will have some time to stamp and hopefully participate in at least one challenge.  I am also planning on cleaning out my clothes closet and linen closet.  I am hoping someone will come help me with the hard decisions of parting with clothes that do not fit.

Now on to the card, I made this card a week or so ago for my in-laws fifty-third wedding anniversary.  My mother-in-law really liked it, and it used one of my favorite sets Inspired by Nature.  Nothing fancy, but I love the Top Note Die and SU DSP Beyond the Garden.

Keep your fingers crossed that the cortisone shot holds in my knee, even though I will have more time to stamp.

Sail Away SSC #208

Last Night I did my Father’s Day Cards based on the Saturday Sketch Challenge #208 at Stamping 411,   http://www.stamping411.blogspot.com/.  I used the SU Sailing Away stamp and the SU Nautical Expedition DSP.  I love the Sail Away stamp and the DSP, I also bought the Open Sea stamp set so I will be making many more nautical cards.  If you look in the right hand corner of the sailboat there are 2 people sitting in the boat.  The designer paper looks like a map in the background.  I will be ordering more of this paper before the catalog ends.  For this card I used the Top Note Die.  I inked the boat with Early Espresso, the waves with Night of Navy, the flag with Cherry Cobbler ink.  I sponged Bordering Blue (retired) around the boat, using an oval template.  To finish the card I used the new Cherry Cobbler/White Baker’s twine.  On one of the cards I used linen thread but after I worked with the baker’s twine it is nice for masculine cards.  I will be making many more of these probably for birthday cards.  This card was quick and easy to make.  The colors are Not Quite Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso and white.

Father’s Day was nice, and I cooked homemade spaghetti and meatballs for the family and my parents.  This is a favorite meal for everyone.  I need to retire soon.  I have to get up early tomorrow to get my oldest child to Marine Science Camp at Jacksonville University.  It is hard when you have to get up earlier in the Summer then during the school year.

The Paper Players Color Challenge #51

Today I decided to enter the Paper Players Color Challenge #51, http://www.thepaperplayers.blogspot.com/  using the colors Wild Wasabi, Melon Mambo and Daffodil Delight.  This is the first time I have entered this challenge.  When I saw these colors SU DSP Beyond the Garden jumped out at me.  I made the card focusing on the DSP, and the embossing folder Flower Garden.  I embossed the featured flowers with the EF, but loosely colored the flowers on the reverse side.  I try this technique on Sunday using different colors and I liked the results.  After I inked over the image with SU markers, I cut out the embossed flowers so they would stand out better.  I must confess that the flower stems are inked with an Old Olive marker. I thought I had some Wild Wasabi ink but all I could find was paper, I think I had a marker that some small hands have probably dropped behind the desk.  The last time I was missing a marker I could definitely identify, I asked if anyone had seen it, and one of my kids told me it fell behind the desk.   As a final note I used the Postage Stamp Punch and Pretty Postage Stamp to make this a birthday card for a friend of mine.   I hope you enjoy.

While I have been busy making cards my husband has been busy reading and blogging as well.  He actually got me started with my blog last fall, yet he stopped posting.  Today he posted about a book he is reading.  I must say this is a perfect example of opposites attracting.  After reading this I feel so inconsequential, oh well after working all day-the intellectual part of my brain shuts down, and silently I play with paper.  Here is a link to his blog if you feel intellectual.  http://sardonicsunlimited.wordpress.com/2011/06/14/book-review-common-as-air-by-lewis-hyde/

Friday Mashup #9 Colorful Kids

Sunny Fun Friday Mashup #9

I made another version of the card I made on Sunday for the Friday Mashup #9 Colorful Kids Challenge, http://www.fridaymashup.com/, I have not entered this challenge before but I love the colors- Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise,  and Pacific Point.  I think this would be a perfect card for either a girl or boy.  I used the colors listed and Sunny Fun from the Stampin’Up Summer Mini, along with the postage stamp punch.  Thanks for letting me play along.  It has been a long week and it is only Wednesday.  Only 2 more days of school and then I get an extra hour of sleep on week days. 🙂

Sunny Fun and Postage Stamp Punch

Sunny Day

I like to post every Sunday on my blog but unfortunately my job is bleeding into my precious free time.  I was able to make these thank you notes for my children’s teachers using the Sunny Day Flip Flop, and I used the Postage Stamp Punch and Pretty Postage set for the sentiment in the upper right hand corner.  By putting the Pretty Postage stamp in the top righthand corner, it looks like a post card.  I must say I love this punch and stamp set by Stampin’ Up.   This is really a clean and simply card, with no bow,  and no brads, although I did use dimensions behind the postage stamp.   I ordered a bunch of new supplies in May and I am just now getting a chance to use them.

I  am hoping to take some time off at the end of the month, and although we will not be able to plan a trip, I should have some time to enjoy the new catalog, and maybe enhance my photography skills with my cards.

Only four more days of school-YEAH!  Less traffic in the mornings and I get to sleep later.

Take Care and hug the precious souls in your life whether they are your children, husbands, or pets 🙂
